WANTED: More than 1000 activists for aerial photograph! The climate needs you!

Climate Action Day, 6 June 2009

Climate change is coming faster, earlier, and more intensely than previously assumed. We want politics to do an about-face toward serious climate action. We would like to send a signal for saving the climate; for globally fair consumption, emission and development patterns- for us and developing countries.

On the occasion of the UN climate negotiations in Bonn, 1-12 of June, a day of action will take place in Bonn.

The up-coming climate conference in Bonn is an important milestone on the way to an efficient and fair post-Kyoto agreement.

The goal: a dangerous destabilization of our climate should be averted by:

  • wide-reaching reduction commitments for industrialized countries,
  • incentive- systems for emerging economies and developing countries for the expansion of renewable energies,
  • effective finance transfers, as well as
  • technology cooperation.
Additionally, we need to support those particularly vulnerable to climate change in dealing with its consequences.

In June, government representatives from more than 100 countries will negotiate on the first proposal for a Copenhagen agreement. On the basis thereof, a post-Kyoto agreement should be negotiated in Copenhagen at the end of the year. Between the preparatory negotiations in Bonn and the final negotiations in Copenhagen the position of Germany and the EU concerning this initial proposal will be particularly important. Whether the EU and Germany take on a leadership role in global climate protection will be one of the crucial factors for the success of the Copenhagen process.

Therefore it is time for a signal to come from the street: you are negotiating our future! We want serious climate action now!

For this, actions are being planned by Germanwatch and many other organizations - and we need your support.

In the morning at the Rheinaue: aerial photograph
Together we will form a motive showing the urgency of serious climate negotiations, which will then be photographed from the air.

In the afternoon: A demonstration from the Rheinaue to Maritim (1 km), the place of the UN climate negotiations.
Here a rally will take place, directed at the representatives of international delegations.

Those who want to get even more involved can come to the youth action tent.

Further information will be posted here soon. Contact: Kerstin Löhr, klimaaktionstag.bonn@yahoo.de
