This statement by Germanwatch and thirteen other organizations on the EU Commission's planned Omnibus Package I highlights its potential consequences for the metals sector. The proposed changes to the original Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) severely weaken the EU regulations on corporate due diligence. In the document, three main aspects are identified in which the due diligence obligations would be weakened compared to the previous regulation. It shows how this weakening not only undermines international standards such as the OECD Guidelines, but also decreases Europe's credibility in the responsible sourcing of raw materials and increases risk and uncertainty for companies.
The publishing organizations call for the EU's strong position in global human rights and environmental protection not to be abandoned.
