People fight for climate justice and climate action in a variety of ways. While some are getting involved in election campaigns and others are taking part in demonstrations or launching citizens' initiatives, the fight for climate protection and climate justice has also been increasingly taking place in courtrooms in recent years. “Climate litigation” is the technical term for the fight for climate action and justice through legal means. Cases such as “Luciano Lliuya v. RWE AG” attracted immense media interest and exemplify the societal relevance of climate lawsuits.
The Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) by Germanwatch assesses the climate mitigation performances of more than 60 countries on an annual basis. In our new CCPI blog post, we discuss the different forms of climate litigation, the role they can play in climate action, and the potential that has emerged from previous lawsuits.
