Erster BESTGRID-Workshop: "The Future of Social Acceptance"

Germanwatch engagiert sich im europäischen Projekt "BestGrid" für innovative Ansätze guter Bürgerbeteiligung und eine transparente Planung beim Stromnetzausbau. Eines der Pilotprojekte ist der SuedLink, eine der Gleichstromverbindungen, die in Zukunft Strom aus den windreichen Regionen in Norddeutschland in die Verbrauchsregionen in Süddeutschland leiten soll. Dort soll im Jahr 2022 das letzte deutsche Kernkraftwerk vom Netz gehen. Viele Akteure aus Politik und Gesellschaft halten den Stromnetzausbau im Höchstspannungsnetz für einen wichtigen Eckpfeiler der Energiewende, von anderen wird die Notwendigkeit in Frage gestellt.

Beim Best-Grid-Fach-Workshop diskutieren Europäische Übertragungsnetzbetreiber mit Vertretern der Zivilgesellschaft und der Wissenschaft über erste Erfahrungen aus Pilotprojekten zum Stromnetzausbau in Belgien und Deutschland, u. a. auch dem SuedLink, und suchen gemeinsam nach neuen Wegen für eine konfliktarme Planung.

First BESTGRID workshop: "The Future of Social Acceptance"

The BESTGRID pilot project SuedLink is one of the evident contributions to the German ‘Energiewende’. It will transport wind from North Germany to its Southern industrial centres where nuclear power plants will be shut down. Similar to a highway without exit roads, SuedLink will cross major parts of the country. There will be visual impacts for many people, however the benefits are not as evident for most. Public irritation has stirred a political debate on the need for SuedLink and further major grid projects, partially withdrawing previously existing political support. In times where the majority of players recognises the need to better inform and engage stakeholders, public opposition has nonetheless developed to a great extent in some locations. At the same time, several TSOs are partners in “BESTGRID – Testing better practices”, an EU-funded project, set up to test and understand better what works and what doesn’t. The workshop will be hosted by TenneT Germany as part of “BESTGRID – Testing better practices”, a project financed by the European Commission (see www.bestgrid.eu).
