| This brochure illustrates and explains the linkages between European trade and agricultural policy, privatisation, liberalisation and the situation of smallholder farmers in Uganda. As a consequence of obtruded structural adjustment programmes and pressure by international funding institutions and investments, agriculture in Uganda has been continuously privatised. Despite higher production costs, the prices smallholder farmers can realize with private retailers have been sinking rapidly and are subject to strong fluctuations.
