
Germanwatch is a non-profit, independent and science-based organisation that works effectively for justice at the global and national levels, as well as for the protection of human rights and ecological foundations (especially climate, biodiversity, resources). To support our international climate policy work between Germany and Indonesia, we are looking for an intern to join our team starting in September 2025, for 40 hours per week for 2 to 3 months. After the internship we intend to continue the contract as Student Assistant (SHK) with 10 h/week.
Your main tasks will include:
- Research on climate and energy transition-related topics regarding Germany and Indonesia
- Assisting in developing policy briefs and other types of publications
- Organisational support in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of events
- Support with general office activities and other administrative tasks
We look for a candidate with:
- Interest in working at an NGO with a focus on international climate policy
- Registration as an active student at a German higher education institute, with at least 3 Semesters for Bachelor students or a 1st semester registration for Master students, preferably in the fields related to politics, sustainable development, climate, or renewable energy
- Fluency in English (required), proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia (preferred, but not required), basic German (advisable)
- Experience in reading research papers and policy documents (preferred, but not required)
- Background knowledge of Indonesia and the ASEAN region, especially on the topic of climate, just transition, and energy transition (preferred, but not required)
- Good command of the MS-Office suite, Zoom, and other tools required for internet-based research
- Independence, diligence, ability to work in a team, initiative, reliability

- Opportunity to continue work as a student assistant (SHK) afterwards. Payment would then be based on the German public sector pay scale (TVöD Bund): EG2 for Bachelor students and EG3 for Bachelor graduates. This currently corresponds to an hourly wage of €14,90 or €15,94, respectively
- 30 days of annual leave based on a 5-day work week (2.5 days of leave per full month)
